| December 4, 2003 Gollum and the Precious I totally agree with you Idril. I believe that by the time "The Hobbit" takes place, Gollum had literally become one with the Ring. That's why he refers to himself as "Precious" and the Ring as "his precious" as well. He sees it as so much a part of himself that he can barely distinguish between the two.
