Re: Faramir Defamed
smack
When I saw the film I thought exactly the same as you, and I still do about Frodo. But I honestly think you should watch the entire 8 or so hour long extra material on TTT EE. There they explain why they did so. I can’t remember entirely but I will give it a shot.
The short story is, they had like 3 different stories in 1 film, Frodo and Sam, Merry and Pippin, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli. So the thing is in films u need climaxes, and they needed this in all 3 stories in TTT. Helms Deep was a natural climax, and merry and pippin along with Treebeard destroying Isengard. All though it is a flashback in the book it isn’t in the film. A pro writer wouldn’t write such thing as a flashback. And they don’t talk to Saruman in film 2 but they do that in film 3, but why? They did it because it would be an anticlimax.
So Frodo and Sam, what the heck could end that part? Except Shelob, which they couldn’t because then it would go into book 3. They had to finish the sequence with Shelob because you simply don’t stop a climax in a film, then it turns out to be bad. so they were kind of forced to make Faramir as an optical, which I find understandable. And no I don’t think PJ thinks men are weak, but here you have the explanation, hope its for some use ;).
