Re: The Birds on Caradhras and Sam

Good question Lem, the birds on Caradhas were Crebain of Dunland, servants of Saruman and are usually used as spies by all the powers of evil.

They are a breed of large black Crows that lived in Dunland and the Forest of Fangorn in The Third Age. These birds were named Crebain in the language of the Sindar (Grey-Elves) and they were servants and spies of evil powers. During the War of the Ring they searched far and wide over the lands of Middle Earth.

To answer Melodies question, there were some Elves left after Cirdan left though all the Noldor(High-Elves) had gone over to the Undying Lands. Sam must have hopped on one of the remaining Grey-Elves or Silvan(Legolas' race or Green Elves) Elves.
