Beg Pardon?
Lilly
I never asked what longshanks were; you've got the wrong confused person. I haven't posted in forever, in fact, because I've got nothing to say.
But now I do.
In the FOTR book, when Strider first tells the hobbits about the riders chasing them, he says something to the effect of "do you wish to [see? meet? This is off the top of my head] them? they are terrible!" and then he pulls a face like, ouch, that hurts to remember.
Why would he act like talking about Nazgul is painful for him, as if he was trying to supress a bad memory? He'd never met one before, had he? I thought that, up until this time, the wraiths hadn't been let loose for ages!
ALSO: In the ROTK (book), Merry declares that Theoden would be as a father to him.
I dislike that line severely. In fact, I wish we could learn more about Merry's actual father, and his family. More of all the hobbits families, actually. I love every one of Sam's thoughts about his Gaffer or old Ted Sandyman. I wish the hobbits would pine more for the Shire, as I think was nicely done in the TTT extended.
I mean, all the others are used to war or travel or being alone, but the hobbits are family-oriented and clannish. I find it hard to believe that niether Merry nor Pippin once mentioned thier families throughout their adventures.
Wound't they be homesick for more than a cozy hole and a fire?
Well, oh, well. Still love the books, still CAN'T WAIT THREE MORE DAYS!!!
Yours,
~Lilly
PS: I know shanks are legs. I never asked.
