December 20, 2003 Book & Movie Reality Ya know, I'm reading so many comments about how Jackson didn't stick to the story line, and how Jackson changed this, and how Jackson omitted that, and how Jackson wrote this in, and how Jackson messed that up. Anybody who has any grasp on reality when it comes to book-to-movie scenarios, especially LOTR, knows that there's no way every litte detail can be put into it without being under 30 hours long. In addition, Tolkien fans cannot be selfish to the fact that millions of people seeing these movies never read the books and are seeing the movies as a movies only. Jackson has 2 groups of people to cater to, which he does very well. As they say, you can't please all of the people all the time. Those of you who are so hung up on what Jackson didn't do exactly like the books are totally missing the point of how spectacular what he DID accomplish really is!! As far as story line goes, Jackson emphasized, omitted and modified most successfully to bring these books: the story, characters, their stories, landscapes, emotions, grandeur and imagination to life. How lucky for Tolkien fans of this time period to be able to see the story on the big screen! If you don't like what Jackson has done - go do it yourself. |
