Another Review
Pip
Hey peoples!
The hobbit correspondent is back with his review, so if you haven't seen the movie yet, open this article and then cover your eyes.
Now, where to begin? Oh, yes:
PIP RULES!!!!!!
hehehe
Good beginning. Well, now Lilly; I am so sorry that you did not have a nice time. I, as well, went with a huge mob of people, but my problem was not with my friends. It was with a big angry man who accused us of cutting in line when we joined our group who was waiting for us.... we could've taken him, but decided to go as far back in the line as we could (further back then we needed to go) and then chant angrily in elvish. Okay, the chanting thing was threatened but never carried out; we should've though. It would have been great fun. Anyhoo, I am straying from the subject. Let's talk about the movie:
Part One: Cons
Okay, I'm starting with my biggest beefs because I want to end this well. First of all, I CANNOT believe that Frodo would send Sam home! Cannot believe it!! That made me more than angry; firstly, because it was WRONG (movie-book morals here; bear with me), and secondly, because it dashed a wonderful sequence, that should've been in it's place, to bits. At that point, we were supposed to be seeing Gollum when he had his last fleeting moment of goodness; I can't remember how exactly it went, but I know that he touched Frodo's knee, his face softened, and then Sam woke up and accused him of sneaking. I really would rather have seen that than adding to the hate that everyone already has for poor Gollum.
That really was the worst change in my eyes. The others that really irked me were the omition of the Houses of Healing, the non-explanation of the Three Elven rings at the end, and most importantly of all... (scary music) WHY DIDN'T THEY LET PIP KILL HIS TROLL??!!!???! WHY WHY!
I waited sooooooo long to see that part, and it didn't even make the cut. (sob)
Now, I knew that the romance between Eowyn and Faramir had been cut, but I really thought they would have some sort of healing sessions at one point. The reason it bothered me so much was because after the WitchKing affair, Merry just goes back to battle, as if nothing was wrong at all. It underminds that entire sequence by not showing what a deadly force the WitchKing really had.
Okay, enough bashing.
Part 2: Pros
The Minis Morgal part: Two-thousand thumbs up. I got vertigo and a migrane; the feel was AMAZING. Eowyn in battle was also much better than I thought it would be; Miranda was sooooooooo great! I was really relieved that she didn't kill the Fell Beast with one Fell swing of the sword. It was so much more realistic to see her thwack it a couple of times; I could just feel the adreniline.
My two all-time favorite scenes in the movie (right now) though, were just brilliant. The first one was not even in the book: When Frodo collapses in Shelob's lair, and has the Galadriel vision... I felt like shouting :D It was such an encouraging scene, and I commend PJ for putting it in. (Like he's reading this)
My second favorite scene was merely Frodo's smile at the very end before he leaves. "And the Oscar for Best Smile in a Motion Picture goes to... Elijah Wood! for The Lord of the Rings; The Return of the King" Hahahaha! But seriously, I don't usually go for mushy stuff like that, but in this case it was sooooooo great.
Well, this has been big, and although I have lots more to say, I will end it here. My crazy world has slowed down by a degree, and... well...
I'm back
:)
