Westu Peter Jackson Hál!
Lady of Rohan

Wow, now that I've actually sat down to write this, words fail me. ROTK was definitely the best of the three movies. There were a few extremely minor nitpicks that bugged me, but I am a rabid purist and they are insignificant compared to the magnificence of this film.

The opening scene that showed Smeagol and Deagol was great; I was afraid that PJ would put it in the EE only.

Sam's battle with Shelob was awesome. I was so glad they put his "Gilthoniel A Elbereth" line in the script. Details like that just make the movies so much better. Frodo's appearance after being stung was one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen, but I suppose that was point.

Though I never actually broke down during the movies, there were many times when I got choked up. The scene when Denethor sends Faramir and his men on a suicide mission was one. Faramir's reaction to his father was perfect. The choice to have Denethor force Pippin to entertain him while his son rides to his death was inspired. Although not in the books, it captured perfectly the Steward's personality and attitude towards those he feels are subordinate to him. (Which I guess is everyone.)

My favorite scene in the books has always been the Battle of Pelennor Fields and it was my favorite in the movie as well. Massive kudos to Bernard Hill, Miranda Otto, and Dominic Monaghan.

I have read one review of ROTK that criticizes all its "fake" endings. I had no problems with this at all. I'm so relieved that PJ went to so much trouble to end the movies accurately.

ROTK definitely deserves a slew of Oscars. I think that if it isn't at least nominated for best picture and director we should all storm Hollywood. Who's with me?

I apologize for the length and giddiness of this essay, but I challenge any Tolkien fan to deny they felt super emotionally charged after stepping out of the theatre. All I have to say now is, if that was the theatre release, what will the EE be like?

Until we meet again, my friends,

Namárië
