The End of All Things (some Wee Spoilers)
Mr. Underhill
Greetings all. I've seen the Return of the King twice now and I can only say. "Wow!"
It is unbelieveable. As a film, it is the best I have ever seen. It is truly a masterpiece. Upon my first viewing, I went to see the movie with four other guys, and that was the only thing that kept me from breaking down and crying like a baby. Truly magnificent.
Now with all my praise, I do have some gripes with the film. (Most of which will likely be fixed by the Special Edition)
The omissions that I missed the most were these two. Sam's confrontation with the watchers at Cirith Ungol and Aragorn looking into the Palantir. However, I imagine that these will be inserted in the Special Edition, and I am already counting down. Also, do any of you know why Sam did not move into Bag End at the end?
In conclusion, what a film.
The part with the beacons of Gondor sent chills down my spine. And Sam cradling Frodo on Mount Doom while talking about home and strawberries brought tears to my eyes. Congratulations PJ you deserve Best Picture and Best Director. Thank you for putting out these amazing films.
Underhill... my name's Underhill
