Simon: Wow!! I really liked your analogy of Gandalf and his place in Middle-Earth. I had complained in a previous post about how the good spirits of Middle-Earth are often stripped of their might and power seemingly needlessly, while the dark forces are free to wreak havoc. Your perspective gives new light to why the forces of good must act more subtley then we may wish sometimes - both in Middle-Earth, and in real-world religions. Thanks for the fresh and interesting view!
