Re: Gandalf the Steward/re: Movies Fall Short....
Uruviel
Ok, just to clarify, in the post "Gandalf the steward" it talked about Gandalf and the other Istari. That was all correct information, except I think Jarrickton should have said that Gandalf was "a" caretaker of Middle Earth instead of "the" caretaker or steward. Gandalf was not the only Istari sent by the valar. There were five.
Gandalf, Saruman, Radagast (Radagast the brown mentioned in FotR) and two others not mentioned.
I just wanted to add that in there.
Also, about the post "Movies fall short".....
Oh, not a day goes by when I wish there was a way they could have put old Bombadil in those films. Yes, Jackson changed a few things...may more than a few, but overall the story is the same, and the characters have kept their original personalities.
I really think that there are alot of things Peter Jackson could have done different, but come on, he really made it exciting. The books (although freakin' awesome) are not for everyone. There is the constant intros of characters you never see again and some other things that really make it confusing.
ALSO remember that it was not Peter Jackson alone who wrote the scripts, Fran Walsh and Phillipa Boyens and a team of editors all wrote it, so don't attack P.J.
The changes he made were, on the most part, for the better. If the movies had been exactly like the books, they would have been like- 9 hours long each, and would have quickly died on screen, most likely giving a bad name to Tolkien, rather than glorifying him as I believe the movies have done.
Also, with all the work, time, and money spent on those movies, I beleive Peter Jackson earned the right to make a few changes, I mean- He was the one making the movie. We should thank him for doing so, and not gripe about what he did wrong.
Besides, even if you did not like the changes, or even the movies themselves, you have to admit that all those actors, writers, producers, designers, artists, musicians and others, have done a fine job. The effects and breakthroughs seen by this trilogy are top rate, and well made.
So, if you disagree, thats fine, you are entitled to, but please do not complain about the way some one did it wrong. You should go out and make your own trilogy.
