I was wondering about Tom Bombadil myself. You said Tolkien wrote about him long before LOTR and I wanted to enquire what you were referring to. But I agree with your reasoning that he was a Maia, I was thinking the same.
However, I definitely do NOT agree with your other letter concerning the EE. I don’t think Peter would have cut things just to sell the extended edition. He’s now proven himself as an ingenious director (even from the begining- FOTR) there is no need for him to have cut things just for selling something; he’s a very intelligent man! He would have cut things out only for timing… there are requirements ya know.
Anyway, I'm not being rude...only stating my opinion.
