January 21, 2004 The Return of the King Just want to share some thoughts on the last film with other fans. I only wish there were more to follow.I'm going to have to see it again, as I was so bowled over with the special effects, that the I am sure I have missed some "nuances". I know that when I bought the videos and watched them again I had missed little things that were really good. The acting was terrific, but "Sam" took the film. I never thought when the films were made that the characters would come out as I had visualised them in the book, so was amazed that I wasn't disappointed. I also liked the way the appendices were used to give greater "depth" to the story, although it may have been a bit puzzling to people who had not read the book.I think the only critiscism I could make was that the fight scenes wre "sensationalised" a bit, but this would give appeal to non-readers.I only hope the films will persuade people to read the book and not give up on the longer parts, Some of the newspaper reviews annoyed me, the characters of the hobbits are intergral to the story, it is, after all, a tale of ordinary characters facing and overcoming tremendous odds.Well, I have had more than my say, but am new to the site and just incase you think me a bit serious, I loved the fun bits with Orlando Bloom as Legolas, enough to make any woman drool. |
