The Grey Havens

There has been some confusion in this forum over what exactly the Havens are. I'll try to clarify.

The Grey Havens are located at the farthest West part of the main continent of Middle-Earth. The Elves* sail West from the Havens to Valinor, the land of the Valar and the Maiar. Most of you know that Maiar are sort of angels and that Valar are like Maiar but there are only fourteen(fifteen if we count Melkor) of them and they have much more power.

To Frodo Lives: Gandalf sailed from the Havens to Valinor, the place he came from and the place he went when he died from his fight with the Balrog.

*Those who have not read the Appendices might like to know that both Sam and Gimli sailed to Valinor. Gimli was allowed to go becuase of his friendship with Legolas and his love of Galadriel. Sam was allowed to go because he was, for a short time, a Ringbearer.
