January 27, 2004 All Kinds of Everything Elanor, sorry for taking so long to post a reply to your reply, my PC has gone a little strange of late. You mentioned how France had wished to talk to Hitler and so avoid war, that basically history now was/had repeated itself. Before pointing fingers at France, one should remember that they had millions of casualties in WW1 (and so, had good reason to avoid more bloodshed). Britain also preached appeasement (moreso than the French) and as for the US, they didn't want to know, both in WW1 and WW2 (Charles lindberg Anti-war/Pro Nazi stance). Apart from the President who tried to aid Britain in the fight against the Nazis, most Americans commisterated with the Allies but wanted nothing to do with the war. Americans didn't get the name "Johnny Come Lately's" for nothing. Well like I said before, let us stop the degrading of countries, allies we were and allies we are, just because we disagree on a few points dont make us enemies. Were would we be if friends always had to agree? Mostly here in Europe it wasn't so much about the call for war but the manner in which it was done. If Clinton had been in office and made the same call, most would have backed him as he is seen less eager for a fight. He also wouldn't have tried to bully allies and neutral countries to back Pax Americana.
