Hug Me, I'm Ignorant!
Lilly
I've been doing some thinking about the changes to the ROTK story, and (aside from the whole "Denethor the Human Flaming Projectile) I only had one real problem with it...the Mt. Doom scene.
I mean, it started flawlessly, but then I felt it was a little too stretched out when the Ring landed on the almost-cooled lava and hung around for a little bit, and then the whole Frodo almost letting go but then not really (it actually reminded me too much of Titanic...never let go, Frodo.......)
{:/
But, the more I think about it, the more sense it actually makes, more even (maybe, maybe) than in the book.
I mean, Gandalf couldn't take the Ring from Bilbo, because he said it would have broken his mind. It had to be let go.
Broken his mind? And GAndalf only trying to help? Wouldn't a forceful removal of the finger be a little mind-shattering? How did Frodo get better after that?
In the movie, Frodo could probably sense the Ring's presence yet lingering below...so he had a choice: to jump down after it, to be never parted with it, or to let Sam pull him up and be rid of it.
And he let it go. The ring, not the ledge.
So, doesn't that make more sense? I mean, it's kind of more Hollywoodish, but, still.......
How DID Frodo get better in the book? He had no choice...ah, well. Your opinions welcome.
Yours.
