February 3, 2004 Denethor I think that Peter Jackson is trying to show the callousness of Denethor. I am not sure whether it is blood or the juices from the food he is eating, I tend towards it being juices. But not wiping it off shows that at the moment he is indifferent to the plight of Faramir. Boromir is (still even after his death) his favorite son that is loyal to him. Denethor does not understand Faramir and does not want him until Faramir is dying. Gandalf and Denethor have that minature fight about Gandalf trying to steal Faramir away from him and Faramir leaning towards the teachings of the wizard then his own father. So the juices are to show that Denethor considers Faramir not important enough at the time.
