February 5, 2004 Blood !!! Yeah ! You all know this but Denethor must be eating some tomatoes (notice that tomatoes come from America, while Middle Earth is based on the Old World) and the juice spreads on his chin like some vampire's feast. I think I've read somewhere that it is inspired from some famous play or litterature piece (I don't really know which one) where Caligula eats his progeny. It really looks like that, in fact, because he knows he is sending Faramir to death. Anyway, I think that scene is quite weird when you see it for the first time, but if you think about it, it really makes sense. That kind of scene (as Gollum's schizophrenic discussion with himself in TTT) is what makes LOTR (as a movie) a real piece of art, not only a good movie with an extraordinary scenario and trmendous visuals and awesome actors (just that, it isn't SO much !).
