Valinor Orcs and Everett
Annatar
First off, It was never my intention to kick off a discussion as to the whole politics of the wars and American foreign policy. It is grand that we can have our disagreements and still remain fraternal (all brothers and sisters in tolkien :)). My only concern was at "The latest news" section on this site. okay it was now some time ago, but certain articles mixing tolkien and politics turned my stomach. Likening certain countries to Nazgul, Mordor etc. All I wanted was to draw a line against such nonsense. As for discussions about current affairs, that could go on ad nausem, and we all dont want that.
Anyways, Everett, I hope you dont think I have anything but the highest regard for the people of the US, just like all friends we annoy each other from time to time. (oh and about Shannon airport, we did allow it to be used).
Okay at long last back to Tolkien. Sauron only wanted order. Thats all, Tolkien hiself said so. Are people who desire order therefore inherently evil? no of course not. The victors write the histories and so, Sauron the Merciful became Sauron the Tyrant. As for attacking Valinor, no Sauron would not have because his concern was that of teh welfare of humans. Let Valinor hold the sly Elves and their wicked masters. Let it be their prison! And in doing so, turn Middle-earth into a garden, a new Eden, this time without the snake of the Valar to corrupt.
Orc longivity: I have to lean towards the view that Orcs will live forever, unless killed or die brokenhearted :D
Orcs are just reformed Elves and so, apart from no hangups on beauty and a different outlook on life they are identical. I also go a feeling that Shagrat and Gorbag we around during the War Of the Last Alliance. I dont have proof (nor the books near to hand) but I just got an impression it was so.
Anyways my friends, may the blessings of Orcs, Nazgul and all free folk go with you all :) Ash Nazg...
