C: Cracks of Doom
Elendur

The Goal. The climax. They really didn't do a bad job. OK, they did a good job("Clever Hobbits, to climb so HHHHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGHHH!!!").

'Scuse me.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that it could have been better. The problem is Frodo pushing Gollum. I know some people have said that it shows him giving up the Ring, but really(in my opinion anyway) that scene is supposed to show 2 things. First, he couldn't do it. He isn't supernatural. He's a Hobbit, and he doesn't try to be anything but a Hobbit. That's the only reason he got as far as he did. But the Ring was to strong.
Second, the Ring WAS destroyed. But Frodo couldn't do it, and Gollum couldn't do it. I don't think anyone would say that Tolkien just decided: "Hey, I got an idea. Gollum will fall in the lava with the ring by CHANCE!" No, it's more likely that, in Gandalf's words, it was meant to happen.

Here's how I would film the scene after Gollum gets the Ring:

Shot looking through Gollum's eyes at the the Ring. It's getting closer and closer, bigger and bigger. Ring theme starts playing. Background starts spinning. Faster and faster. Suddenly the background changes and we see the lava rushing towards us.

PS: To Tuor: All is forgiven.

PPS: To Pip: I'm only putting in mistakes from ROTK, but I don't consider taking out Bombadil a mistake anyway.
