March 8, 2004 Mithril Coat Hey this is a little theory of mine. Having recently completed the hobbit, again, I found myself quite interested in many of the tresures and heirlooms in the Lonely Mountain. The one of which is still mentioned in LOTR, being the mithril coat Thorin gives to Bilbo. Now in the hobbit, it says that this Mithril coat was meant for an elvish PRINCE, but never delivered. Well this is purely hypothesizing on my part. But it would seem to me that the elves of Mirkwook, had dealings with Durins people before the coming of Smaug. And being that Thranduil has been the king of the elvish realm in the Greenwood, since the early second age, he would probaly be doing most of this dealing. Well It's my theory, that Thranduil ordered this coat, for his son, none other than our very own Legolas. Once again i'm purely hypothesizing. As it seems to me King thranduils people were the closest habitation of elves to the lonely mountain. So if i'm correct, this mithril coat should be worn by Legolas throughout LOTR. But if that happened Frodo of course would've died in the Mines of Moria, and possibly all hope of saviong Middle Earth would've been gone. Hmm whats your take on the subject? |
