Misty-eyed
acer rubrum

Many believe that going to the movies should be a shared/commuity-like experience. Perhaps I've become too emotionally jaded to feel the freedom to cry in a public theater. Duirng ROTK, however, I definetley found myself misty-eyed and fighting back the tears. The whole "strawberries with cream" scene on Mt. Doom between Sam and Frodo finally broke me, not to mention the incredibly moving musical score to continue to tug at my emotional strings.
Not two rows behind me in the theater a woman was not just crying. . . but weeping during the scene where Aragorn rejects Eowyn's love. Maybe she had just gone through a break up? I really felt bad for her. For many reasons I was disappointed that Peter Jackson left out the Houses of Healing chapter. If for no other reason, I wish the Houses of Healing were included in the film just so this woman sitting behind me could find comfort in the fact that Eowyn's heart does find hope.
I'm looking forward to ROTK's realease on DVD. Maybe then (like when reading the book) I'll feel a bit more secure crying during ROTK while viewing the movie in my own home.
