Frodo Has No Credit for Final Destruction Ring
kurtsmaze
hello,
The 3 long movies were all about getting that ring destroyed and at the apothéose, it's completely different from the book.
In the book, Gollum steps into the abyss just after he has bitten of the finger of Frodo. (see below)
In the movie however, he dances around, but doesn't fall, Frodo gets up again, throws himself at Gollum and actually pushes him into the abyss, almost falling in himself.
So in the movie Frodo is the big hero !
But in the original book, Frodo has nothing to do with the final destruction of the ring, Gollum did it by mistake.
Isn't that a BIG difference ?
It affects all 3 movies, since they all build up to this point.
I'm so disappointed :-)
anyhow, the book is better than the movie (isn't that always the case ?)
If you want to check yourself: here's the crucial bit from the book:
Frodo gave a cry, and there he was, fallen upon his knees at the chasm's edge. But Gollum, dancing like a mad thing, held aloft the ring, a finger still thrust within its circle. It shone now as if verily it was wrought of living fire. 'Precious, precious, precious!' Gollum cried. 'My Precious! O my Precious!' And with that, even as his eyes were lifted up to gloat on his prize, he stepped too far, toppled, wavered for a moment on the brink, and then with a shriek he fell.
