Cracks of Doom
Eonwe

I have a question about the Cracks of Doom and the Field of Cormallen. How much do you think the soldiers and captains knew about how things occurred in the Cracks of Doom? When they were honoring Frodo, the Ringbearer, on the Field of Cormallen do you think they knew that he hadn't been able to destroy the ring on his own? Frodo tells the truth when he writes the story down in the Red Book, so I guess he would probably have told the story truthfully early on also. It's just interesting because those events in the Cracks of Doom never get discussed later in the book, not even with Gandalf or Aragorn or anyone. I've always thought of Frodo as the biggest hero in LotR, mainly because that is how the other characters regard him. This issue could somewhat affect that. Maybe we, the readers, know more than a lot of the characters do?

Eonwe

p.s. Although I really wish Jackson had done the Cracks of Doom scene like it is in the book, I don't think Frodo comes off as a 'hero' in those scenes of the movie. A big point is made of his failure to drop the ring in the fire, and there's nothing heroic about his struggle with Gollum that results in Gollum's fall.
