March 30, 2004 Frodo and R Hey all, it's been awhile, but I have some time to spare now. Frodo is definitely the hero of LOTR, but I have to agree that he could not have done it without everyone else's actions. Frodo's (and Sam's) path was the bravest as they were venturing into the heart of the most dreaded land in Middle Earth, not to mention that he volunteered to take the ring to Mordor. Though he probably subconsciously volunteered out of fear of giving it to someone else rather than being brave. If the Fellowship had not broken up, then Sauron probably would have detected them before they ever got to Mount Doom, especially if they knew of no other way into Mordor besides the Black Gate and the Morgul Vale. As Gandalf said, everything he and Aragorn and the elves and all those other people did was in the end just to "give Frodo time, time to defeat this evil that marshals before us." I don't think that quote is in the book, but it is in the video game, and it fits, so it's good enough for me.
