April 18, 2004 Fanfics Hey all. As interesting as it is to read fanfics, I don't think a published continuance of Tolkien's works would be a good idea. Fanfics are individual people's ideas as to what could have happened, what did happen, why it happened, and then of course all the humor and parodies. There are also fanfics that are just stupid, immature, and gross (such as slash). Everyone who's into LOTR has their own ideas as to what happened next, whether or not you've actually written a fanfic. The question I have is: How would you choose the one person to write another book, or books? It would be like picking one fanfic about the Fourth Age and saying, "Okay, this is how it's supposed to be, this is what happened. Everything else is just speculation." The only person who could properly choose would be J.R.R. Tolkien himself, and obviously that won't be happening any time soon.
