Thoughts
-
Well, here I am, back again - I have not posted in such a long time, it's good to have been able to read through everyone's varied ideas and debates, and I just thought that I might briefly contribute my own points of view on what has recently been discussed.
Firstly, to address the 'A-Z' by Elendur (I think - off the top of my head), nit-picky of course, but it was a cute way to tackle a few of the flaws throughout the movies. An unusual technique. Everyone has their own ideas and views, and thats fine. Nice work.
Secondly, the fascinating topic of more Middle-Earth writing - and most importantly, the idea of it being written by a new author. Each to their own of course, but I personally hope that it never happens. Tolkien can never be replaced, no matter how good or involved a new author may be - no matter how learned, or passionate, or imaginative. Lets just deal with the fact that these stories are all we will ever get of this quality and scope. My thoughts only of course, I don't presume in any way to speak for others.
As an afterthought too, the amount of ridiculous fan-fic on the net is enough to turn me off the idea of a new author - slash anyone? No thanks. I understand some people appreciate that kind of genre, but again, no thanks. Of course I understand that that is not all available in fan-fic, but the rest of the writing is just not of the same standard.
To me, Frodo is a hero. To be a little more specific though, within the books and movies there are all kinds of heroes, in a variety of circumstances. There are many characters that I admire, and all for different reasons.
I know there was more I wanted to say...maybe I should be writing notes/points I would like to cover as I read through all your posts.
Oh, actually I was interested to know who/which actors (if any) anyone here has met from the movies? I recently met and was able to speak to Craig Parker (Haldir), Sarah Mcleod (Rosie Cotton), Mark Fergusen (Gil-Galad) and a few minor characters and extras, which was absolutely wonderful and interesting. So please, if any one else has had the opportunity (which I'm sure some have!) to meet actors, and maybe share a little on what it was like, thoughts, discussion with them, etc etc. I would be most interested. =)
And lastly, to Annatar (again, off the top of my head - please forgive me if it was someone else) - the lyrics for Aragorns' coronation song, and where they were from, was a really nice reference that I much appreciated. Thanks!
Well, I think that's it from me for now! Hope it wasn't to long -
