Son of Whom?
Lilly
I've noticed that in the LOTR most of the characters have no living mother. That's something I'd like to know about, so, could someone help me out with this?
We know Legolas' father is a king in Mirkwood. What happened to his mother?
Gimli son of Gloin. And who else?
Aragorn's mother actually seemed to play a role in his life (albeit she died before we could meet her), but Arwen's is nowhere to be found. Who was she? I think the book makes at least one passing reference to the death of Elrond's wife...what happened to her?
And what about Boromir and Faramir? What hapened to Mrs. Denethor? (would she have been a stewardess?)
I guess Sam's mother must have left Gaffer a widower also...or else she didn't deserve mention, having fewer handy maxims than her husband.
LOTR isn't anti-feminist! It's anti-mother! Let's list the motherless (or seemingly motherless) souls in this book:
Frodo (though his father had the decency to accompany her), Sam, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Boromir and Faramir, Gollum (though he did at least stay with his grandmother), Arwen, Merry and Pippin (do we hear ANYTHING about their immediate family? Ever?), Eowyn and Eomer, I mean, gosh! Maybe with a little more older feminine influence in their lives, there would have been less unhappiness in middle-earth!
Info on these long-lost maters would be swell.
Also, I've given up my A-Z thing. It sucked, and I hate copycatting anyway. Let wiser heads deal with clever things.
yours.
