Mothers (and Fathers)
Tuor
Well, I know Arwen's mother was Celebrian, the daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn, who wed Elrond. She was ambushed by orcs while crossing the Redhorn Pass, sometime before the War of the Dwarves and Orcs, I think, which is why she is not in LOTR.
Merry and Pippin both introduce themselves the "proper way" a few times, so you at least know their fathers' names. "Meriadoc son of Saradoc and Peregrin son of Paladin." Though no mention of mothers. Though I think Merry's mother was a Took, I know Bilbo's mother was a Took, and Pippin is a Took, so that explains how they are all inter-related.
We know Eowyn and Eomer's mother was Theoden's sister, so in their language her name probably began with Theo-, but I don't think we know much else. Actually, I think there's something more about her in the appendices, but I don't feel like flipping through that now.
As far as the rest, I don't recall anything about Legolas's mother, nor Gimli's. I'm sure something is mentioned about Mrs. Denethor somewhere, but I don't know where. Probably the appendix also.
Oh, I thought the A-Z was very well done, critical but not hateful. Though I always thought Frodo's hair was a little too dark and not curly enough in the movie (little joke, sorry).
