To Bob Praz: i have a fascination with Troy and ancient history in general, so i love movies that focus on them! an huge added plus is the prescence of Sean Bean and Orlando Bloom (as well as Brad Pitt..hehe, what can i say?)
To speedcorn: i'm not particularly interested in fanfic for reasons i've already stated: it's normally very stupid, trashy, and a waste of time. of course, i haven't read ALL fanfic...very little, for that matter. but i've been told about it.
thanks for the books...i've already read 1 and 3 (Philip Pullman and J. K. Rowling). some books that aren't like Tolkien's works, but are about fantasy worlds:
Terry Pratchett's Discworld Series
there are about 30 books. the first is called "The Colour of Magic"
these books are HILARIOUS, especially later on. they focus on a world of very eccentric characters. the world is very midevil-like, and there are many parodies of our world. while these books aren't excellently written, and not very much like Tolkien's books, if anyone finds themself at a loss for a book to read, look no further! you don't need to read the books in order.
To Lilly: It's true, mothers are not mentioned very often in LotR! but i DO know that eowyn and eomer's mother was the sister of theoden...i think we all knew that. but it is a little worrying that mothers tend not to exist
