Niel of Mithlond
Hi, I see Lilly got the answers to her question. Theodwyn was Eowyn and Eomer's mom. Lilly, do you really believe that Tolkien was anti- feminist?? He wasn't. Please take a look at the History of Middle-earth. Galadriel, Varda, Luthien, Celebrindal, and Morwen were all strong and individually minded people, esp.Galadriel.
Everyone has aleady given some opinions on LR fanfic, but here is mine. On a large scale it is mostly trash. Tolkienonline has some nice stories, that are really well done, and the reason I have enjoyed them is mostly b/c they are pretty good simply as stories. But I think that having someone contract a person to "officially" continue M-e's history would be a totally horrid idea. It wouldn't be anything close to the real thing,b/c only Tolkien could have carried on Middle-earth's history authentically.
I've been complaining about the Grey Havens since I saw the film to anybody who would listen. Ditto on the visuals.I'd expected a sunset bordering on dusk scene. I felt the scene was off b/c of the lighting tone. Then there is the total lack of other elves!Mithlond was one of the major cities of the elvenkind and I think you might have possibly seen a few. Also the greater part of Elrond's and Galadriel's people left w/them. Where were they?? As one of you pointed out earlier, the ship was very small and where the heck was Shadowfax? I feel that the scene in FOTR:EE, the passing of the elves to the Grey Havens, as seen by Frodo and Sam, was the True passing of the elves. That scene is actually one my absolute favorites in the movies.
I found that reading the books before having seen the movies was the best way . I was able to read the story as it was written, without any mis-conceptions,cuts or changes, and was able to have the chance to see Middle-earth in my own way in my mind. What is the best part about the movies for me is seeing the places you've seen a thousand times in your imagination come alive. Likewise for moments in the movie where you say to yourself"This Is how it was". And when I watch those parts ,it is a really moving experiance.
Namarie eva sei & God Bless!!
