A Change From the Usual...
Lilly

I'm sitting here today, reading the debate going on and deciding NOT to post about it and display my ignorance (again)...so how about something entirely different and shockingly off subject.

I know a lot of you posters are fans of fantasy in general. I've recently discovered a fantasy game like no other to be found...Zork. Ever heard of it? Maybe some of you have.

It's a--and don't give up on it beforehand--text-based game for MS-DOS (though I think there's a mac-version also).

ZORK follows the adventurers of an...adventurer. It's kind of like an interactive book. It will describe to you a room (you are in a small room, which must have once served as a bedroom, as there is an old bed in the far corner. on the floor is an ornamental rug. in the southwest corner is a fireplace. It may be possible to climb up the fireplace, but I doubt you could get back down...)

After your surroundinds are described to you, you react accordingly. type "move rug" and you will! type "jump" "yell" "hello, sailor" "go south" "go southwest" "go up" "eat sword" "open door" "take book" "read mail"

the game is surprisingly smart! It will respond to nearly every command you give it, if you spell things correctly. From "attack goblin" to "push button" to "kill self" (suicide is not the answer) this game is interactive fun!!

It takes elements from all sorts of fantasy stories, including Tolkien. It's good for dull rainy days and is surprisingly addictive.

if you go to www.thezorklibrary.com, you will find links to download all the text-based zorks (and they're actually pretty TINY FILES, as they requre no graphics! you can fit all but one on a single disk!).

Sorry, but I just thought somebody might be interested.

yours.

~Lilly
