Two Questions

I have heard that in order to link The Hobbit with LotR, Tolkien had to change certain parts of "The Hobbit" to make the stories line up correctly. I have my suspicions as to what those chages are, but does anyone know for sure?

Also, why is there an ad for the Constitution Party on this site? I don't have any objections to it being there. In fact, out of all of the political parties in the US, the Constitution Party's principles and platform most nearly line up with my own political beliefs. I'm just curious.
