Lucas and Jackson
Lem
I just caught up on the past week's polls, and I wanted to comment on the Jackson/Lucas fiasco.
I think that they're not really very comparable. I agree with whoever said so that Lucas is different because he invented Star Wars. Jackson had a much harder job because he was adapting a huge tome into three long movies. Lucas's movies were probably targeted at the adventure/sci-fi fans, while Jackson had to consider those who were lovers of the book, and those who were new to it. He must have had a much harder time trying to identify his audience, and adapt the book accordingly. Also, Jackson's project was much higher-scale than Lucas's.
well...if we were to compare them, I'd say Jackson is a winner. I agree that the plot/dialogue of A New Hope was pretty comic-bookish and cliche. "rescue the princess!" it seems like it was just adapted from a fairy tale setting to a "futuristic/alien" setting....well whatever.
