August 27, 2004 Re: Danny Danny, *doffs cap* impressive post, especially how you assign the "death" of the Witch King to a Hobbit and a blond wench. Truth be told neither killed the Witch King, the Blade of The Westernesse did. Only a blade that had certain spells on it, specifically meant for the Witch King could destroy him. The prophecy stated that it was not so much that a man could not kill him but that a being that was not a man would be carrying his destruction. If we have to pick, I'd say Merry was the Hero, the wench did nothing except distract the target for the Hobbit, while the rat stabbed him so cowardly from behind. Ok I will admit that the conduits for the power of Sauron, the Nazgul, do have slight flaws, but they can channel the might that is Sauron, when his mind is bent on them. So, Gandalf may have had certain openings in a fight, certain weaknesses to exploit, but he would have had to contend with the might of Sauron and the inherent power of the Witch king himself, beating him into the ground. Remember Gandalf was infront of the Lord of The Nazgul, at least the old fool did not dishonour himself with a ratlike cowardly blow.
