I've been reading your argument, Danny and Annatar, with interest and have found something to comment on.

Annatar, you said:

"Gandalf may have looked like an Old man but there was nothing frail in his form"

This is untrue. I remember that Gandalf once said that with the body came the aches and pains of an old man. He felt like an old man. He tired easily, and his energy was not what it could have been had he been incarnated as a young man.
