Re:Tuor, and a word on Legolas
Lilly
Yes, even in the book I wished Sam would just smack the living daylights out of gollum! But I would have been satisfied with him just NOT leaving and sneaking along behind, to keep an eye on things (he did, after all, have a promise to keep yet). And yeah, the hobbit actors best met my personal image of the hobbit characters.
Hey, feel FREE to spoil anything for me from the teaser trailer--it won't work on my computer, nor any of the computers at my school. I've only heard everything (sound was all that would work), and that's JUST TORTURE!!!
Now: about Legolas. Is anyone else upset by his portrayal, especially in the second (especially, ESPECIALLY in the third) movies? I mean, here we've got all these deep and complex characters everywhere, and then here comes Legolas: Stone Cold Middle Earth Captain Obvious!!
After a scene in which the men sit in uneasy silence, and the horses neigh and stamp around fitfully, he announces (just in case no one was following along) "The horses are restles...and the men are quiet."
Thanks for that one, Legs! I didn't notice!
After a scene in which Aragorn and Gandalf and all describe the best diversion of Eye (and army) of Mordor they could contrive, Legolas pipes up, in all the glory of realization: "A diversion!"
No, really?
He's always gazing around with Bambi eyes as if everything he saw was new to him. (though, if you were to ask me, all Bloom does in any of the movies I've seen is just make those puppy-dog eyes into the camera and be concerned.
LOTR: (googoo eyes) We cannot stay here! We cannot linger! There is no hope! Crebain from Dunland! A diversion! The way is shut!"
POTC: (googoo eyes) Elizabeth! My father! A pirate! A good man! Elizabeth!"
Troy: (googoo eyes) "My brother!!...etc."
I mean, I really liked the Legolas from the book. He was such a smart alec, but such a good person at the same time, and cleverly funny. Where is that guy in the films?
The FOTR managed pretty well to show his more serious side, but still showed a bit of teasing in the FOTR EE DVD, and in the TT they managed to put some elf-dwarf banter in (also in the EE DVD), but in the ROTK he was just this melo-dramatic prettyboy dork who seems to be one step behind everyone else mentally.
But who cares, right? I mean, if the guy's good looking, who needs an actual representation of his character, eh?
ACK!!
yours.
