Faerlas, the Eagle brooch is the Elessar, the Elfstone. Made by Celebrimbor or another elf in Gondolin... Enerdhil? (no books to hand, Unfinished Tales) It captured some of the light of the sun and helps in healing and preserving. Galadriel gave it to Aragorn because he had the greater need of it in his trials with Sauron.
Two versions of the stone may have been created, Celebrimbor created the second, better made but less powerful brooch. Less powerful because it was made thousands of years after the original, and the sun is less bright than in those days.
The original may have been taken into the west. Like they need it there! Greedy elves not sharing with Humans/Orcs/Trolls/Ents.....
