Writers
Pip
Well now, if anyone wants my opinion (no one answer that), here it is:
I don't think that the writers did a terribly bad thing in how they wrote Leggy's lines. If you put them in the context of how they wrote the movie, they really aren't that bad. Now, I'm not defending the writers, or saying that the Lego lines were perfect or anything, I'm just saying that when you compare the Legolas movie dialog to the Legolas book dialog, and then put that comparison next to the other characters' changes from book to movie, it really isn't too big of a difference. (That was a run-on sentence if I ever wrote one...) Nothing to get too upset about; nothing like the Faramir situation. Now THAT is something to have a fit about ;)
I also really agree with Bob Praz's article (refer to it if you want more of a point) in that the writers always need a couple of different characters that are willing/able to play mutiple roles. Such as Legolas+Captain Obvious, or Elrond+Captain Shut-up-I'm-going-to-tell-you-what-to-do, or Gollum+Smeagol+Captain I-may-look-dopey-but-I-know-everything-that-is-going-on-EVERYWHERE.
That's another that irks me more than the Lego/line situation. The fact that Gollum seems to know too much in the movies. It hardly seems reasonable that he can explain anything the hobbits need to know about anything. (Refer back to TTT where Sam spots the Oliphaunts and Smeagol reveals Mordor's plan of action all in one scene)
Anyhoo, I think I'd better shut up at this point...
;)
