Faramir for Ringbearer?
G
I notice that the current poll on this site, asking who we wall think should have carried the Ring from Rivendell, does not include Faramir. Admittedly he was not present at the Council of Elrond but neither was Eowyn and she is still there.
The reason I bring this up is that I am suddenly reminded of Faramir's dreams telling him to go to Rivendell for what turned out to be the Council of Elrond. Are we to assume that Faramir's dreams were naturally occuring with no outside intereference or is it the case that some higher power (Manwe? Eru?) gave Faramir these dreams in the hope that he would go north rather than Boromir and become the Ringbearer? The more I thinkabout it, the more I consider Faramir to be the perfect choice.
If anyone is to argue that Frodo was the perfect choice it must be remembered that Frodo needed considerable assistance along the way that would not have been as necesary for Faramir and that Frodo eventually failed in his mission. He did not cast the Ring into the fire, he just got lucky.
I'm not saying for sure that Faramir would have done better but he had the potential and had he been at the Council and volunteered ahead of Frodo I believe he would have been chosen.
