Re: to Annatar
Farlas
I think calling King Elessar a dictator is only partially true. Yes he ruled with absolute authority, but unlike most dictators of the last century(our world), he was open to suggestions I think and was a little more willing to leave his neighbors alone.
I do realize all things on this earth and Middle-Earth will come to an end, but not all things end. Empires and Kingdoms of MEN may rise and fall, but some things will endure past the breaking of the world. (such is my belief anyway!)(I would give you more of an explanation but I have much more to say)
And as for your 'what is evil' question I say this, I do believe there is such a thing as cold and hot(you know this if you live in a northern state), black and white, right and wrong. (I will explain more later if you like, but again my time is short and I have much to say.)
I read your double standard post and I thought it rather absurd. For one thing I do not recall what woses are, and for another, orcs are not only commanded to kill, they delight in killing. They kill for no reason. They go out of their way to destroy any thing that seems good. The men of Rohan do not delight in the killing of INNOCENT people as the orcs do. They only fight to defend their own. And you said that the men of Gondor sliced up the country side and cut down old forests. Incase you didn't know, forests will burn on their own to get rid of dead wood. Forests will shift their borders naturally and I really don't see how any forest left on its own can last ages considering the natural cycle of things. Forests rise up, burn away, and rise up again. You said the Numenoreans and the Exiles chopped and destroyed all before them. Some times there is cause. If there are too many old trees, some must be felled to keep from having forest fires. Houses must be built, and fuel for them is needed, so trees are cut down. I see no problem with that as long as more trees are planted in their place. (Did you mean Elves when you said exiles? If so then I do not think any elf would fell a tree just for the sake of doing so.)
The orcs killed each other because they hated eachother. And I think killing someone for jewels or ships is wrong. Vengence upon a wicked person perhaps only if I knew all the circumstances.
May I also say that the forces of Mordor treated all alike because all were slaves! With me at any rate your racism between elves and men holds little water! Do you give your most prized possesions to someone you think will mistreat them? If you have any sense you will say no. I understand why Elrond didn't want Arwen to marry Aragorn, its because she was the even-star of her people which obviously meant something to elves. Thingol I think wanted the silmaril for semi greedy reasons, some I think were understandable, I would have to re-read that to answer better.
I do not understand what you meant when you said,"Mordor may have committed evil deeds at times but they were more honest and less base in their reasons than when the West commited them. " Oh, and I sincerely hope you were being a smart alec when you said "Sauron was also more generous to his enemies than the West. When was the last time an Elf gave an Orc a ring?! A simple cheap tin ring even?? Yet Sauron generously handed out Gold and Mithril rings. "
There! I have spoken as well as I could off the top of my head! Well Namariƫ!
