Attacks and Shligigh

Faerlas, County Sligo (Contae Shligigh in the Irish)pron: Slygo. It is a city, not a very big one though. There are some nice things about Sligo county... Countryside... my Fiancee... but Sligo town itself is a mad mix, narrow dirty streets, lovely pedestrian walkways by the river. Way too many skangers though, on par with Dublin.
Letterkenny now... Nice open town in Donegal. Lower levels of skangerism. Not so clostrphobic (sp?) closed in.
Sligo - Yeats country.

Opalys The Crow, about increases in attacks... you live in the wrong country. Come over here. Better gun control. No death penalty. Probably the highest growth rate in Europe. Social Welfare. Health care that has the right idea (even if it is a little screwed up at the mo). Roads... erm... well I'll skip that bit. Damned Politicians always ignoring Donegal... I swear we would have been better off as part of Northern Ireland, for a time anyways till we got better road and rail.
Seriously though, the mad fascination Americans have with Guns is beyond everyone over here. Most anyone has over here(legally) are shotguns and .22 rifles. Which requires police checks and land on which to hunt. Handguns are illegal...
Way too much emphasis on Personal Rights at the expense of social responsibility.
Maybe its a result of TV, Movies etc... but the USA does come across as a teenager, not quite long enough in the tooth. Enthusiastic, over eager, self righteous, idealistic...
Good and bad I suppose. Which differs from most peoples view of the American people. Who I'd honestly say we all probably love, but because of it is why we are so vocal when we think the US does something a little off. Strikes us as mad when lies are told yet people still trust and believe the tellers. But then maybe the tellers were right to do what they do... just the methods they use are a bit off. I think we would sleep better over here if people said, "Yeah they are lying, I dont trust them, but I think in this they are right"... its the blind trust that give us the shudders.

I'm not getting at anyone with this ok, so please read as it was meant as a conversation between friends.
