In Response
Elendur
Well, Annatar, I've read enough of your posts to know all is meant well and in good humor. So I know you won't mind a response.
The Gun Thing: Part of this is about a right that we (some of us, that is) believe is important to a free country. Or, to put it another way, it's important to keep a country free. A government will only stay in the power of the people if the people have power. (I know that sounded like a slogan, but I made it up on the spot, thankyouverymuch.
Our second reason is simply practical. You heard what Opalys said: she's uneasy because criminals around her have guns. She, on the other hand, obeys the law, and thus HAS NO GUN. It's the opposite of what it should be. At least in America we have a fighting chance. Yes, I know it doesn't always work. It would work better, I think, if more lawabiding citizens carried guns. Make you think twice if you were a criminal.
That's the theory. I'm not up on the stats, so I don't know how well it's working. At least the first part works. The second, as I said, would work better if more good guys carried.
As for blind faith...well, I'm afraid it's a problem we all suffer from. Need I remind you though, that we have our dissenters? The only question is which of us is blind.
