Sigh...
Farlas
I love the man with the power thing! Bachelor and the Bobby soxer... One of my favorite movies...
Anyway, most guns used in crimes were bought illegally and are unregistered. And I must say, that if citizens of a country don't have weapons, then when their government tries to enslave them it's citizens, have something to fight back with. If you are opposed to honest citizens carrying/owning guns to defend themselves with then whatever. I don't think it is over all detrimental to society. Oh, and the 100,000 people thing could depend on whether your in Detroit/D.C. or St. Paul Minnisota.
We do have something that seems sort of like your watchdog thing, it's called checks and balances over here. Unfortunatly, when one house gives up its authority to another (legislature gives up its power to judicial branch for example)the delicate balance is broken. So I would suppose that our systems are similar (sorry I really havn't studied, in depth, the government of you all over there) (but I do have a general understanding of Brittish government)but see, if one group decides they don't want to follow the rules, and they convince the others to join, then you have no way to defend yourselves. We can fight back. I suppose you could say that we became a titch paranoid after we won our independence from England with the gun thing and all, but I don't think so. I think it is a necessary part of being in a free country and maintaining freedom. Please don't think we use guns as our first resort, rather it's our last. But when push comes to shove, we'll be ready! There. I've said my piece. (For now!)
