Hitchhiker's and other
Bob Praz

I saw Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy on Friday as well, and I quite enjoyed it; for a movie. It is probably more original and brilliant than most movies anyone will see. However I agree with G, the old series was better, but only because it had the advantage of being an almost direct translation of the book. The problem with the new movie is also that a lot of people I know didn’t seem to get it unless they knew the books as well; I guess it’s a little rushed at two hours long. But it’s a great movie nonetheless! Though the book still dominates by 100%.
Whenever I think of it, British humour is by far the best humour; so much more original and witty than most of the cheap sitcom-like humour we have here in North America. I simply love Monty Python, Black Adder, and Red Dwarf, although the latter isn’t aired anymore over here, nor is - since recently - Black Adder. It feels like North Americans are missing out on much.

By the way, I’m also looking forward to Kingdom of Heaven, as I quite enjoy Ridley Scott’s work, and I especially like Gladiator and that genre of movies. I hope it’ll be as good as it’s made out to be, though perhaps that’s still unlikely. I also wonder if Orlando Bloom will deliver a worthy performance, but we’ll see...

Anyhow, until our next meeting...
