LOTR Not Sexist
Danny

Ok, I know that it is not as good to hear this from a guy, but I appreciated Sarah's comments about Tolkien not being sexest, just being realistic. To say that the two genders are different doesn't mean that they shouldn't be treated as equals. There are inherent differences that are more than physical between the genders. Us guys are more likely to break down a door, where women would find the key under the doormat.

Honestly, Eowyn has always been one of my greatest heros from LOTR. Her heroics, and courage are part of my favorite prose from LOTR. When you mention unsung heros in LOTR, I think of Sam and Eowyn. Tolkien made her one of the greatest heros in his book. Her courage and strength was a fairly liberal thing to portray in his time.

Okay, beyond this point is my effort to prevent any people from hating me for what I am posting. It is not so Tolkien related so you don't have to read further unless you want to read a paragraph of me rambling.

I may be making enemies with this posting, but sometimes politically correct thinking is ignoring reality. Just to make sure that I am clear, I reiterate my first statement that being different doesn't in any way diminish the right both genders have to be treated equally. I beleive that each gender has characteristics and strengths that accentuate to a better whole when a man and a woman work together in equality utilizing the strengths of the other to make up for each one's inherent weaknesses. The differences between the sexes are important to the world as a whole.
