Suez Canal & Better Angels...
Annatar

Faerlas, first things first, I spose alot of people over here call such drinks Minerals. Never did myself. Oh well.
Did I detect a smidgin of Anti-french sentiment from Faerlas in the last post? hmm?
A bit like The Simpsons, the whole how to pronounce Chowder... Chowdaa... no chowder... I KILL YOU AARGGHH!
Talk about overreaction. Just because a friend disagrees with you doesnt give you the excuse to hate or to any anti sentiments. The "Oh they didnt back us when we needed help" nonsense. What about Suez!! Stabbed in the back, the Brits and the Frenchies were by their friends the Yanks. They went to keep the Suez canal open and free for all trade, but got shafted by the "leader" of the "free" World. The Oil embargo crippled the UK, only when they pulled out of Suez would the US help with finance. See how it goes!? In truth, come to the Irish if you want to learn how to hold tight to the hurts of the past.

Whether the US acknowledges it or not, they are the modern Rome. Although I do see a strong resemblance to the Athenian-led Delian League.

One hopes not to see a repeat of Syracuse.

In regards to oil, petrol etc, exactly because we pay a higher rate for fuel spurs us on to better conservation and alternatives. The World has had enough of the petrol poison. Become hydrogen producers like Iceland, keep Alaska untouched and pure. Ireland could and should be doing more. We could export electricity to the mainland. All made by wind power. But the damn politicians...
Car size we dont all drive minicoopers and micromachine size cars. Loads (way too many) SUVs here, Chunky VWs Toyotas BMWs Mercs etc. Whats the American preocupation with size?
Who said Freud?
Besides, road width here is as big a concern as petrol prices in regards to car size. Old cities, old narrow roads.
In the US there is a benefit to having no old/ancient cities to deal with. Someone said that some Europeans are guilty of accusing the US of having no culture...
Well if it walks like a duck, looks like a duck and sounds like a duck...
JOKING!!
Reminds one of Horace:
Graecia capla ferum victorem cepit (captive Greece took its rude captor captive). Rome absorbed the Culture of other nations and made it her own. What have the Romans ever done for us?!?...
The Aquaduct....
(The Life O' Brian)

As rambling rambles that was pretty... ramblin'esc

See you all later my friends :) Ash Nazg...

"We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection."
