Comrades! In the whole economic discussion, Im not a supporter of pure socialism nor pure capitialism. Both makes slaves of men'n'women. Capitalism has the upperhand though in the development of our fair planet. But it must be tempered with a slice of socialism. Ireland for all her faults kicks major butt when it comes to her economy.
In previous posts by Everett and Faerlas, did I detect a large chunk of Thatcher/Regan 80's greed is good?
Pure Capitalism does favour the rich over the poor. The rich will get the best education the best start. The poor... well.
Capitalism' great achievement is it encourages innovation and rewards work.
Capitalism CAN be great but only if it is kept on a leash.
"One thing I have never understood is the argument that the social responsibility of individuals requires confiscatory tax rates for the purpose of funding government social programs" That, to my eye reflects an opinion that the citizen is separate to the Government. It also suggests that the individual does not consider society to be its family. Fostering an ethos of brother/sisterhood is needed in the world.

The whole Anti-french thing. Too many people are Anti-french because of the stupid things said by one eejit called Jacque Chirac.
So these people are anti-60 million people they havent met because of one mans loud mouth. Chirac and everyone has the right to disagree with anyone if thats their opinion but as always its how it is done and said. No need to insult people.
For any Anti-french/german... people out there... Would it not be ok for me, for anyone,(based on above example of judging all citizens by one persons actions), to judge all 290 million US citizens as immoral, corrupt, twisted... if I look at what PFC Lynndie England did in Iraq?
Or was she only acting on orders?
Like that worked at Nuremburg!
Or Pres Bush, "if you are not with us you are against us" not much freedom for Neutrality, or for differing of option. One might say it smells of dictatorship, but who would be so bold as to say such a thing.

Hopefully you will get what im trying to say. Anywho you are all in my cool book (as Mr Clooney once sed), Opalys Queen O cool.
