*Falls over*
Farlas
Annatar, I read your "Ringses" post, and my eyes grew wide, my heart stopped beating, I almost had a heart attack! Well, okay, I almost choked on my 7up.
Anyway, I am in disagreement with your views on right and wrong. There must be definite and absolutes rights and wrongs, if there are not, then there is chaos. Some things I could see where someone may argue, but that is usually a nitpicky thing where humans simply cannot see the dividing line. To say that Sauron's goal for world peace was correct, even if it had to be achieved through tyranny, death and destruction, is preposterous. If the "ends justifies the means" philosophy is correct, then I should build a nuclear bomb and blow up communist countries, for the greater good of a world without communism. Do not say I should not take it to extremes, for such a philosophy is an extreme.
To say what is right for one person isn't necessarily right for another is also, well, just plain ridiculous. If I think it's right to kill all people with brown eyes, it doesn't mean it's right. It means I am insane and a serial killer.
For a Middle-earth perspective, Sauron was a treacherous, murderous, blood thirsty, power hungry tyrant. Aragorn, he was trustworthy and desired peace and life above power. Don't you even start saying "Well, he killed orcs that never did him any harm!" When you know full well that the orcs would have done him harm! And don't start in the Wildmen either, they chose to join the enemy, thus they had to be killed in warfare. Before you start twisting that around, may I also add, Wildmen killed men, women, and children unprovoked (by individual families. Thus, innocent men, women, and children) and orcs killed humans and elves unprovoked, and tortured them as well! At least when elves kill it is clean and in battle, not after years of torture. Celebrian anyone?
So dont' even try defending yourself Lord Sauron! The only way you can is if you strip away the basic morals that everyone is born with.
Back to modern terms. Right and wrong are known to children even at the youngest of ages. These things are only forgotten when people tell them, "Well, you don't know why he killed that little girl. There have been something in his back ground that caused him to do that." That is when basic morals and principals are forgotten. And may I say, that argument is hogwash, through and through! Just because you were not treated right as a child, or your parents did something wrong, does not mean in any way shape or form that you have to do it as well! My grandfather was abused and his parents were drunks, and he never struck my mother or my uncle, nor was he a drunk. You may suffer because of your parents folly, but it does not mean you must repeat your parents folly. Duh! What part of free will do these people not get! You can always chose to do right, even if the consequences are dire, right is always an option.
Well, I have spoken my piece on the subject. No attacks on people, just false philsophy.
:D
