Mischievous Annatar...
Annatar
He say with a sly grin.
Faerlas, the belief in what is absolutely good and evil stems from a belief in the divine. Dependant on what you consider that divine figure/s to be, will impact on what a person sees as good and evil.
The man behind the mask agrees with all you said, but Annatar loves to argue.
People who worshipped Moloch as God would believe all he commanded was good and so the sacrifice of babes in arms was to be the height of worship. To be chosen was a great honour. To ensure your peoples well being and to have your child join with the god. They would have believed it was good. From out view point they were mistaken, but someone who acts as such... can they be viewed as evil? or as they just mistaken?
A deed can be evil but the person not. A deed can be good but the person evil.
Not word play!
In the crusades, knights were told to kill Muslims, to do so would be as prayer, to die fighting such unbelievers would ensure your rise to heaven (sounds familier these days). The men who swallowed such lies may not have been evil, yet evil was the deed.
A man who coverts anothers wife may shower her with gifts, the act of giving gifts is not evil, however the thought behind it makes the man sullied with the stain of evil.
Personally as a Catholic I will base what is good and bad on the Word. But I can still see all
sides.
Surprise! Annatar likes playing devils advocate.
Loads more arguements etc.. but I really have to do work now...
Bye :) Ash Nazg...
