May 30, 2002 What an Outrage I just finished reading the article on this site entitled "Towers title slammed" in which it tells of an online petition that has accumulated over 4000 signatures to change the title of "The Two Towers" all because of September 11. Aside from the fact that this is totally absurd it doesn't exactly strike me as something to be trusted. Not only should it NOT be trusted, but it shouldn't even be taken serious. The arguments are all there in the article, you can read them yourself, but what it boils down to is the fact that it's on the internet. All that is required to "sign" this petition is a name and an email address. Names can be made up, and email addresses come in the dozens per person. I alone have 5 email addresses (on the low side, I know), and could easily go back to this site and sign the petition over and over using a false name and one of my email addresses. It seems to me that someone is out to get PJ - or someone is just bored and wants to start a bunch of commotion using the sept. 11 incident to get followers....(just like those bulk emails)..How sad. Although it was a trajic incident, I think people need to grow up about it with respect to this well-known beloved classic novel, and hopefully, film. Seriously, simply look at the fact that it's not called "The Twin Towers." If that were the case then there might potentially be something to whine about. In this case we might as well form a petition to change the name of "Attack of the clones" to something else, because when I read the word "Attack" it makes me think of the attacks on the world trade center. For anyone who has participated in the anti-Towers petition, just remember, the trade centers weren't the only things hit on September 11th. The pentegon was also hit. Are you going to raise a fuss about every movie made that mentions the pentegon too? We live in a free country, and hopefully, a free world someday. Freedom of speech and expression is a beautiful thing, and I honestly hope that this petition doesn't truthfully represent what my fellow American citizens are thinking. Let's use that freedom for the right reasons. |
